About Me:
Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (“MBRT”) today announced the appointment of its next Executive Director, Sharon Markley Schreiber.
“The MBRT is privileged to have a board composed of business and education leaders in Maryland committed to education and workforce development in the state,” said MBRT Chair of the Board, Christine Aspell. “On behalf of the board of directors and staff, we are eager to work with Sharon Markley Schreiber in her new role as executive director,” said Aspell. “With an impressive background bridging workforce development, education, government affairs, development, and communications, Sharon joins MBRT to lead at an important time in its 31-year history. The board is eager to work with Sharon and the MBRT team supporting the development of a competitive future workforce across the state.”
With MBRT’s experienced leadership team as support, Schreiber will be well-positioned to influence Maryland’s workforce development and K-12 education initiatives into the next decade, including: implementing Blueprint for Education initiatives, exposing students to high demand career fields, providing work-based learning opportunities, and removing barriers of entry to college, apprenticeships, and other career readiness programs.
“Maryland’s students and families deserve access to career visualization and workforce development tools early in their education journey, and businesses must have access to a future-ready workforce to thrive. The MBRT stands at the intersection of education, business and government at a time of enhanced focus and urgency on education outcomes,” states Schreiber, “and I am excited for the opportunity to collaborate with the Board and lead MBRT in our next chapter.”
Schreiber most recently served as the chief operating officer of the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC). Schreiber provided leadership to the organization while overseeing the merger of the Economic Alliance of Greater Baltimore (EAGB), where she was the former COO, with the GBC, bringing together the regional organizations to create a singular vision for how Baltimore will compete and thrive on regional, national, and global stages and the strategic role business will play. Schreiber has provided strategic leadership to public and private stakeholders throughout her career, including her role as director of education and innovation for the Maryland Department of Commerce leading outreach and collaboration with education and workforce leaders in support of business attraction and economic growth. Previous roles combine over a decade of experience in the field of education, where she served as vice president for public affairs and strategy at Stevenson University, special assistant to the president at Notre Dame of Maryland University, and The International Dyslexia Association where she was branch services manager for 47 branches in the United States and Canada. Additionally, Schreiber has worked in the area of human resources for commercial construction and engineering firms, with her earliest career work in the field of residential interior design.
“The staff at MBRT is talented and the board has incredible leaders at the helm,” Schreiber adds. “I am eager to roll up my sleeves and work on behalf of the students, businesses, and organizations across Maryland. As the daughter of retired educators and a life-long resident of Maryland, my heart is focused here and I am looking forward to working across our great state to solve the challenges that face education and businesses.”
The search for the new Executive Director began this past September. The search was conducted by the MBRT Board of Directors, in partnership with HR Strategy Group, LLC, an executive search and human resources consulting firm. Schreiber’s new appointment as Executive Director will begin in January of 2024.
