The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future: What It Means for College and Career Readiness

Three years into the implementation of the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, the state is working to transform education and ensure every student graduates ready for college, career and life. This ambitious plan outlines essential changes to Maryland’s public education system, including a renewed focus on College and Career Readiness (CCR).

At its core, the Blueprint seeks to make Maryland a national leader in student achievement by addressing equity gaps, expanding opportunities and providing every student with the tools they need to succeed. However, implementing the Blueprint is no small task—it requires collaboration among schools, education service providers such as MBRT, families, communities and businesses to ensure its goals are met.

What Does This Mean for Students and Families? For students, the Blueprint’s focus on CCR ensures they graduate with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive. It emphasizes personalized learning, career exploration and postsecondary preparation, helping students connect their academic achievements to real-world opportunities. Families benefit from clear pathways to success, financial aid guidance and access to programs that bridge education and industry.

How Is MBRT Supporting These Goals?

Pre-dating the Blueprint, MBRT’s Next Generation Scholars (NGS) program has been delivering CCR-focused services since 2017 that align closely with the Blueprint’s vision. Here’s how we’re making an impact:

  • College and Career Exploration: In MBRT’s five NGS school districts during the 2023-2024 school year, 434 students participated in college visits, gaining firsthand insights into higher education.
  • Skill Development: 90% of our NGS students reported feeling prepared for future careers, and 92% identified how their skills align with career goals.
  • Academic Success: MBRT NGS students achieve higher attendance, better grades and increased engagement compared to their peers.

Through mentorship, workshops and partnerships with local businesses, MBRT is immersed in our NGS districts and works with all 24 Maryland school districts to empower students to see college and career opportunities as achievable goals.

How Can Businesses and Stakeholders Help?

The success of the Blueprint depends on community collaboration. Businesses can help by volunteering with MBRT as speakers in the classroom, hosting students for job shadowing or providing resources for CCR programs. By partnering with MBRT, you’re not just supporting students—you’re investing in your future workforce in Maryland.

Why It Matters

The Blueprint for Maryland’s Future is more than a policy; it’s a promise to our students. With MBRT’s proven approach, unique MBRT resources and your support, we can ensure that every student has access to the opportunities they deserve. Together, we can make Maryland a model for educational excellence and equity.
