Recently, MBRT’s Next Generation Scholars visited Stevenson University and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County. Students’ college encounters allowed them to envision themselves on a college campus and see firsthand what it’s like to be a college student and how it differs from high school.
Since college visits boost college aspirations, MBRT designed its second annual summer of college bootcamps for rising seniors to further jumpstart their future. The 2022 summer schedule includes Coppin State University on August 2, Washington College on August 4, Goucher College on August 9, and Salisbury University and Frostburg State University on August 11.
“Hands down, college visits remain our most popular learning experience, so we have developed a summer schedule that will provide additional opportunities for students to gather important information prior to the start of school, and help inform upcoming decisions about their future,” says Nona Carroll, MBRT chief strategy officer and Next Generation Scholars program director.
Bootcamps help students understand campus life by providing a tour of the college and setting up meetings with current college students. In addition, bootcamps feature working sessions designed specifically for rising seniors about how to finance college, including information about scholarships and grants. All Next Generation Scholars will also begin the work necessary to apply to college, including starting the Common Application, drafting ideas for their college essay, creating their Federal Student Aid ID, completing a resume activity worksheet, and choosing up to five schools they want to apply to this year.
Registration is open for students interested in attending a college bootcamp in August. Students should contact their local coordinator to reserve their spot.
