After spending almost 30 years serving the Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons as a Drug Treatment Specialist, member of the Special Operations Response Team, and adjunct instructor at Potomac State College teaching Criminal Justice, Leonard Webb decide it was time for a career change. “I saw the same young men walk into my office, and walk into my classroom,” said Webb. “I decided I wanted to change from helping young men not to return to prison, but instead, helping young people not enter the criminal justice system at all.”
This led to Webb becoming an Academic Consultant and Academic Success Speaker in 2017. Through his company, Webbolutionary Motivation, LLC, he provides professional development to educators by enhancing their awareness of implicit biases and cultural relevance workshops. He uses his experience to help students improve their academic performance and behaviors so they can pursue their dreams and avoid the adversity that leads to the criminal justice system.
Around the same time, Webb was looking for a way to be active in the lives of students to help them achieve their goals. He started volunteering with Maryland Business Roundtable for Education as a part of the Maryland Scholars Speaker’s Bureau program.
Since then, he has remained very active with MBRT, and continued to support not only the Speaker’s Bureau, but also the Next Generation Scholars program as a regular guest speaker. His experience as a life coach, as well as his involvement with MBRT of the years led to Webb seeking the role of Next Generation Scholar Program Coordinator for Allegany County in 2021.
“Becoming a coordinator in the program seemed to be a natural progression and would provide me the impact I was trying to accomplish.”
Webb is looking forward to utilizing the life lessons he has learned through the years of advocating, teaching, and coaching and bringing them to the classroom.
“Life is about choices, preparation, opportunities, perseverance, and sometimes second chances. I’m committed to helping students advocate for themselves and pursue their dreams.”
