MBRT Partners with Harford County Schools and Business Leaders

On October 21, MBRT collaborated with the Harford Business Roundtable for Education, a local partnership of business leaders, to present a fall event designed to bring employers, Harford County Public Schools (HCPS), and Harford Community College (HCC) together to explore career-connected learning opportunities. Hosted at the Maryland Golf and Country Club, the program helped to strengthen relationships and build sustainable partnership opportunities between HCPS, HCC, and the business community.

While apprenticeships are a proven career-connected learning pathway, partnerships between the education and business sectors are not “one-size fits all.”

In addition to job shadowing, mentorships, and career fair opportunities, MBRT’s Carrie Pannone focused on opportunities within MBRT’s Speaker Series, where professionals share industry insights and their career journeys in classrooms. This MBRT-sponsored and trained volunteer activity is a meaningful and in-demand way for employers to engage employees in their communities, aiding staff retention while improving students’ career awareness.

MBRT Speakers Bureau volunteer Corey Geho of APG Federal Credit Union shared his perspective as a panelist at the event: “Pouring into our students and communities today builds tomorrow’s workforce – our future colleagues, innovators, and leaders shaping stronger communities together.”

“It was such an honor to present to the Harford County leaders about MBRT and our Speakers Bureau to support schools and students in their region,” remarked Carrie Pannone, Sr. Manager, State Programs, MBRT

Harford County Executive Bob Cassilly and HCC President Dr. Theresa Felder also addressed the audience, highlighting the importance of collaboration and strong academic and training programs to strengthen the local workforce.

The MBRT is planning for employer and school district regional meetings in regions across the state, creating expanded opportunities for students to connect classroom learning with career possibilities. To discuss bringing this event to your region, please contact MBRT Executive Director Sharon Markley Schreiber at sharon@mbrt.org.
