February is CTE® Month

Career and Technical Education Month® was created to celebrate the value of CTE across the country. It began as essential instruction that dates back to the founding of the U.S., which valued a strong knowledge base and skill set. Today, modern CTE prepares students to be college- and career-ready by providing core academic skills, employability skills, and technical, job-specific skills.

Through the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), Maryland offers 10 Career Clusters that deliver skills to build businesses and communities. During the 2021–2022 academic year, Maryland has 122,519 high school CTE participants.

At MBRT, we believe CTE programming is essential to building a brighter future for Maryland and the achievements of students should be celebrated. That’s why we’ve teamed up with MSDE to launch a logo competition. Entry deadline is March 18, 2022. The chosen logo will be used on all future CTE materials.

Engineers Week is February 20–26

Engineering, which is one of the CTE Career Clusters, is the application of science and math to solve problems. Every February, the National Society of Professional Engineers dedicates one week to raise awareness of and interest in engineering and technology fields. The 2022 Engineering Week theme is Reimagining the Possible.

As in years past such as 2021 and 2020, MBRT will again host events to help inspire Next Generation Scholars during Engineering Week. This year, students will have the chance to participate in a wide variety of programs, including a virtual visit to the National Security Agency (NSA), participate in a “STEM-onstration,” receive in-classroom guest presentations from engineers, explore engineering firms, see highlights of students, complete a STEM project and visit the University of Maryland Eastern Shore for demonstrations and career exploration.

MBRT partner Northrop Grumman is hosting several free E-Week webinars for students in grades 5-8. Visit NorthropGrumman.com to learn more and register. If you would like to be part of MBRT’s future Engineering Week festivities, please contact your local MBRT coordinator.
