October is Maryland College Application Campaign (MCAC) month, a statewide initiative aimed at increasing college enrollment for first-generation students, low-income students, foster care youth, students with disabilities and others underrepresented in higher education. The MBRT proudly supports this effort by providing individualized college application assistance across its districts.
In Kent County, 70 juniors and seniors had the opportunity to connect with 12 admissions representatives from Maryland colleges and universities, gaining insights into academic and campus life. Across other counties, MBRT team members are leading application workshops, offering personalized support to help students complete college applications and prioritize financial aid.
In 2023, the Application Campaign introduced a challenge to emphasize financial aid. The MBRT schools are responding by offering Financial Aid Nights and in-school workshops, assisting students in creating FSA IDs and MDCAPS accounts, which are critical for need-based financial aid applications.
Additionally, MBRT’s Next Generation Scholars (NGS) students are attending college fairs across Maryland. Over 170 students from Caroline, Dorchester, Kent and Wicomico counties participated in the UMES Tri-County College Fair, meeting with representatives from over 50 institutions. In Allegany County, MBRT NGS students are preparing to attend the Tri-State College Night in mid-October.
Students in the NGS program qualify for application fee waivers. If a student is using the Common App, select “yes” to the fee waiver question under “Profile.” If help is needed in locating the application fee waiver process, connect with your NGS Program Specialist.
Why it matters: Through programs like MCAC, MBRT is directly supporting the futures of Maryland students by ensuring they have the tools and support needed to pursue a higher education pathway. For our industry partners, your investment is making an immediate difference in cultivating your future workforce by expanding college access and preparing the next generation for success.
