Increasingly more students apply for early admission to college. Receiving acceptance letters sooner than later can help bring much-anticipated relief to many students and their families who must make important financial decisions about the future.
There are three kinds of early admission: early decision, early action and regular decision. As outlined by Washington College Admissions Counselor Suzie Friedrich during a Just for Juniors webcast, each is unique based on application deadline and level of commitment.
Throughout October, November and December, MBRT coordinators from the Caroline, Dorchester, Kent and Wicomico counties hosted on-site college admission events for Next Generation Scholars, which included individualized interviews with college admission representatives. Prior to the on-site visits, seniors submitted applications and high school transcripts.
“Having worked in college admissions prior to my role with Next Generation Scholars, I am delighted to be able to provide these kinds of opportunities for my students,” said Aundra Anderson, Kent County Coordinator. “Not every school offers this opportunity, and it’s amazing to be able to have the connections to make it happen.”
As a result, MBRT is pleased to share that nearly 60 of our Next Generation Scholars have received early acceptance to Salisbury University and the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, including:
With this early action admission, students may accept their offer(s) or take their time and continue to apply to as many schools as they’d like since it’s non-binding.
As students and families continue their college exploration and application process, MBRT coordinators remain committed to helping students who want to apply to college and supporting families through the process.
“I wouldn’t have been admitted without your help or without the school contacting McDaniel, so I appreciate all the help and support I got,” said Tyrik Braboy, a senior at Colonel Richardson High School who completed his application during Maryland’s College Application Campaign (MCAC) and was accepted to McDaniel College.
“Next Generation Scholars has helped me a lot through my college process,” said Ashlyn Rodriguez, a senior at Kent County High School. “I’ve visited colleges and participated in college visits that happen at the high school. Mrs. Anderson has helped me a lot by helping me apply to colleges and figuring out how to fill out my FAFSA form.”
Cambridge-South Dorchester High School senior José Gonzalez Jimenez also appreciates how the program has positioned him for success. “Next Generation Scholars and Mrs. Bell have helped me through my mental blockades in the college application process and has helped me get further along in my college journey than I probably would have gone,” he said.
MBRT remains encouraged by student progress and looks forward to celebrating more college admissions in the future.
Seniors and their families are encouraged to contact their coordinator with news of college acceptances.
