College Bootcamps: Revamped and Better than Ever

Even though our seniors just crossed the stage, we are already looking ahead to preparing for the next graduating class. In a little over six weeks, college applications will open for the 2024-2025 school year, which means it is time for our rising seniors to start to execute the plan they have been building for the past few years.

Our Next Generation Scholars coordinator team knows how overwhelming the process can be, which is why they curated College Bootcamp, a signature summer event for rising seniors. The purpose of this event is to expose students to the college admissions process, covering topics such as athletics, scholarships, financial aid, the Common Application, resume building, transcript requests, teacher recommendations, and more.

This year’s College Bootcamps have been revamped to meet the needs of the students, featuring a more intensive, but localized event, with components all five districts will be covering.

“We’ve listened to what our students need, and that is hands-on help in completing applications, applying for scholarships and financial aid,” said Nona Carroll, Chief Strategy Officer and NGS Program Director. “This year’s most intensive approach will provide students with the opportunity to complete the bulk of the work prior to the school year even starting.”

Students can expect to cover the following topics during their 10 hours of College Bootcamp:

  • Create a Common App account and begin application
  • Create an FSA ID
  • Create a MDCAPS account
  • Complete an Essay Writing workshop
  • Learn how to present yourself to admission committees
  • Search colleges
  • Set goals for senior year

Alumni will also be invited back to share their tips and tricks, having just completed the process themselves.
