What does it take to keep communities connected, businesses running and homes powered every day? For students who attended 2026 Industry Day at BGE in Baltimore City, the answer came to life through hands-on activations, cutting-edge technology and conversation with professionals shaping the future of the energy industry.
On September 25, 2026, BGE and Pepco Energy welcomed MBRT students from across the state for an immersive career exploration experience designed to showcase the many opportunities available within the utility and energy sectors. From drones and virtual reality to engineering challenges and employee panels, students discovered firsthand how STEM skills translate into meaningful, high-demand careers.
Throughout the day, students participated in a series of interactive energy activations that highlighted the technology, infrastructure and innovation powering Maryland’s communities. Through Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS), students experienced how drones and robotics are used to inspect infrastructure and support energy operations. The Gas Boom Box experience provided an engaging look at how natural gas is produced, transported and delivered safely to homes and businesses. In the Virtual Reality Energy Activation, students explored immersive simulations that showcased energy infrastructure and industry careers. Meanwhile, STEM in a Box challenged students to build and test their own lie detector devices, introducing key concepts in engineering, circuits and data collection through hands-on problem solving.
Post-event survey responses indicate that the experience strengthened students’ understanding of career pathways and workforce opportunities. Feedback received from participants indicates that students left with a stronger understanding of career pathways, greater awareness of opportunities across Maryland’s workforce and an appreciation for the value of internships, networking and career exploration. One student commented that their takeaway from the day was the importance of completing an internship, while another said they would like support in securing one.
Another student noted, “There is more to a business than we see.”
The MBRT 2026 Industry Day exemplified the power of partnerships between education and industry. By providing students with access to professionals, hands-on learning and authentic workspace experiences, organizations like BGE help students better understand the opportunities available to them and the skills needed to succeed in a rapidly evolving workforce.
As students left with new perspectives, practical knowledge and career inspiration, one thing became clear: the future of energy is powered not only by technology but by the next generation of innovators, problem-solvers and leaders.
