MBRT Student Ambassador Program Applications Now Open!

The MBRT’s Student Ambassador program recently wrapped up its sixth successful year, and recruitment is now open for our newest Ambassadors. Initially launched in 2018 as an initiative to empower Maryland high school students with essential skills for life beyond graduation, the Student Ambassador program has evolved into a thriving community of young leaders from across Maryland. This year, the program welcomed 26 students from across 11 school districts, including Allegany, Baltimore, Caroline, Dorchester, Frederick, Howard, Kent, Montgomery, Prince George’s, St. Mary’s and Wicomico. These students have joined bi-weekly virtual meetings and participated in multiple activities and events designed to help them develop skills needed after high school. Eight of these Student Ambassadors have now graduated, marking a significant milestone in their journey from students to leaders.

The recruitment process for the Student Ambassador program, which is now in full swing, is an exciting opportunity to expand MBRT’s community of student leaders. The MBRT seeks out students who not only excel academically but also demonstrate passion for leadership and education. These students apply to be evaluated on their ability to represent their peers and advocate for positive change in their communities.

Once selected, Student Ambassadors embark on a transformative journey, participating in bi-weekly virtual meetings, engaging in dynamic activities and attending events designed to hone their leadership, communication and problem-solving skills. The program is not just about personal development, it’s about preparing students to be changemakers of tomorrow.

Angel, one of this year’s Student Ambassadors, reflects on the program with enthusiasm and offers advice to future recruits: “Enjoy being part of an amazing group of strong, smart and hardworking people. This group has allowed me to interact with others like me who want to change the world for the better. This experience has presented me with the opportunity to meet new people and learn new things about other communities across Maryland.”

Ciara, another Student Ambassador, highlights the program’s role in shaping her future: “Being an MBRT Student Ambassador is an amazing opportunity for young people to be a representative and role model in the community. Being an ambassador has allowed me to gain confidence in my leadership skills and has taught me how I to apply those skills in the future.”

As the Student Ambassador program looks toward its seventh year, the excitement continues to build. The application process for new recruits is now open, and MBRT is eager to welcome a new cohort of passionate, driven students who are ready to take on the challenge of leadership. With each passing year, the program grows stronger, and its impact on Maryland’s students and communities becomes even more absolute.

For those considering applying, Angel and Ciara’s experiences offer a glimpse into what awaits—a chance to join a powerful network of young leaders, to learn from diverse perspectives and to gain the skills necessary to make a lasting difference in the world.
