The MBRT is excited to announce the upcoming launch of its One2One Mentorship Program as a pilot at Wicomico High School, an initiative designed to help high school students learn from MBRT program alumni, explore college and career opportunities, build confidence, and navigate the often‑unspoken “hidden curriculum” that shapes success in school, college, and the workplace.
The pilot of MBRT’s One2One program pairs 11th and 12th grade students with MBRT alumni mentors currently enrolled at Salisbury University, who offer guidance grounded in lived experience. These mentors understand the challenges that come with transitioning from high school to college or career, ready to help students take their next steps with clarity and support.
Over the upcoming months, participating students will engage in one‑on‑one mentorship sessions, connecting every 2–4 weeks through meetings that focus on goal‑setting, personal growth, and real‑world skill development. Whether discussing time management, overcoming obstacles, preparing applications, or building communication skills, students benefit from honest, relatable conversations with someone who has been there before.
In addition to personalized mentoring, students will take part in interactive workshops covering topics like financial aid and scholarships, résumé and LinkedIn presence, interview and networking skills, and mental health and stress management. These workshops bring together mentors, educators, and business guest speakers to ensure every student gains practical tools for life after high school.
The pilot at Wicomico High School marks the first step in a broader vision included in MBRT’s new strategic plan. The MBRT plans to use feedback from this pilot to refine the experience and prepare the program to scale across Maryland. The goal: to create a statewide network where students receive meaningful mentorship, build professional readiness, and access a network that continues to support them long after graduation.
What makes this program especially meaningful is its origin: One2One was imagined and developed last summer by MBRT NGS Program Support interns, who are now MBRT alumni. Their lived experiences, insights, and passion for supporting today’s students shaped the program from the ground up.
This is only the beginning. MBRT looks forward to growing the One2One community across the state.
