PERFORMANCE AND ASSESSMENTS

MBRT believes that progress must be measured.

MBRT believes that statewide testing should be done annually to make sure all children are competent in reading, math and science.

MBRT believes that powerful assessments measure learning growth and provide direction for future instruction - so that help is provided to children who are falling behind.

MBRT believes that the diploma should verify the achievement of high standards.

During 1998-2001, MBRT strongly supported the state's High School Improvement Program through testimony to the State Board of Education and public engagement activities.   The High School Improvement program will require high school students, beginning with the graduating class of 2005, to pass end-of-course tests in order to receive a diploma.  High standards have been set, tests are being developed, curriculum is being improved, teachers are being trained, and interventions are being developed to ensure that students receive the help they need along the way to acquire the knowledge necessary to pass the required courses.
